counter-irritant, expectorant, stimulant, anti-helmintic.

However, due to its potency, clove essential oil is typically used in small amounts to avoid overwhelming the senses.

Contra-indications: 
Clove is highly irritating to the skin and must be diluted to concentrations less than 1% prior to use.
